Welcome
Welcome to Blessingway Herbals. Blessingway was founded by midwife-herbalist Becka Sheranian in the early 1980's, and has become a valued learning center for those wanting to expand their knowledge of native and edible plants. From the novice to the seasoned professional, Blessingway's goal is to enhance your herbal knowledge with basic, down-to-earth tips on using herbs, 'from the garden to the table'. . Blessingway's classes focus on women's health, pregnancy, birth & family care, as well as general classes for those wanting to expand their knowledge of native and edible plants. We have a great line of 100% organic and homegrown products including tinctures, teas, body & bath goodies, baby products and more!
These are my grandkids who I adore! I hope one day they will show interest in learning about plants and native foods, as this knowledge has brought much joy to me throughout my life.
I find myself feeling blessed for the knowledge
I have gained through sitting with other midwives and herbalists, doctors and nurses, native healers and others using alternative healing methods. It is from this vast body of intellegence that my knowledge was gained, and is
passed on to others.
I believe in the power of plants to help us with so many aspects of our health and bodies. From the youngest newborns to the oldest elders herbs and their products can help you be a bit more comfortable when you aren't feeling optimal.
I invite you to join in on one of our classes, for as my guest, so you can gauge if the material is in line with your interests.
About Blessingway
Blessingway Herbals' was founded by Becka in the 1980's Humboldt county, had a brief 7-year stay in Monterey and is now located in Sonoma county just north of San Francisco.
The school offers classes in midwifery & herbs that are packed with practical how-to information. Most classes are taught by Becka, however there are several classes throughout the year that are led by talented and knowledgable guest teachers.
Becka has been teaching midwifery and herbal classes for over 30 years. Her road to teaching began when she and two other midwifery co-apprentices formed the 'Family and Childbrith Education Center' in Gureneville in the 1970's. As a way of gaining knowledge the three of them decided to host guest teachers who had the skills they wanted to learn. Some of the early teachers included Rosemary Gladstar, Yeshi Newmann, Gail Peterson, Lewis Mehl, Nancy Mills, and many, many local midwives and doctors. It is a full circle journey to end up back in Sonoma county after all these years!
Along the way, Becka has taught at The Heartwood Institute, The Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, The Northern California Women's Herbal Conference, The Bay Area Herbal Conference, Rosemary's Garden, Moonrise Herbs, The Sonoma County Herbal Festival, KPFA Radio and more. While teaching in Monterey Becka was delighted to welcome into her Women's Health class the midwifery pioneer, and one of Becka's early teachers, Raven Lang. Here is what she had to say about the class.
“I loved the style of your teaching. It is inclusive, feminine, and informative. I think everyone had a good time, I know that I did. It felt so good to sit in a circle with another sorority sister of birth. We are lucky to have you teaching. For me, hearing someone teach "from the garden and from the spirit" so to speak, is so nurturing. Having learned Chinese herbs in a totally academic setting was so difficult, abstract, and objective. I would rather learn 20 herbs thoroughly than 300 superficially."
~Raven Lang, January 2008
